Therapy and Counseling

When I say the word "therapy" what comes to mind? Answers to this question are as diverse as the clients to whom I have queried this over the years. But, most of the stuff folks say doesn't at all resemble anything that actually goes on in my office. I won't ask you to lie down on the couch (unless, of course, you'd like to). I won't sit quietly judging you without offering feedback. I definitely won't show you little pictures and ask you what you see.

Here's what I will do:

  • Listen carefully and empathetically
  • Ask you what your goals are for counseling, and help you articulate how you'll know we've met them
  • Offer resources that others with your concerns have found helpful
  • Tell you honestly if your presenting problems are outside of my scope of practice
  • Help you discover a sense of hope and possibility you might have lost
  • If you are coming for couples work, I will help you define goals you both want to work on, and then offer you the tools to start that journey

Over the years, I have worked in a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings with client populations that include couples, families, sex offenders. and incarcerated youths. This breadth of practice has shaped me into a mature therapist with the skills and flexibility to treat many kinds of concerns. I am comfortable working with clients with any sexual orientation. Issues that I can help with include:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Work-related stress
  • Couples counseling
  • Postpartum concerns
  • Grief and Loss
